Jazz history evokes images of a colorful past when musicians in smokey speakeasies played long into the night the classic tunes of Swing and Bebop. The Doug Talley Quartet, based in Kansas City, recreates that same excitement and verve for concert audiences of today. Talley is influenced strongly by such legends as Joe Henderson and Wayne Shorter, and has put together a quartet of musicians also studied in the ways of the masters. Learning from jazz history, this group expands old parameters. The quartet breathes new life into standards and originals with colorful harmonies and strong rhythms, creating its own voice...a hallmark of great acoustic jazz.
