This exhibit in the Eisenhower Presidential Library in Abilene will showcase the top 8 Wonders of Kansas, as voted upon by over 100,000 from across the nation, in nine different categories. The categories are the overall 8 Wonders plus the rural culture element categories of Architecture, Art, Commerce, Cuisine, Customs, Geography, History and People. The overall 8 Wonders of Kansas will be featured in the library lobby while the other Wonders will be displayed on the second floor gallery of the library. These exhibits will feature professional photographs and artifacts. The remaining 16 finalists in each category will also be recognized. A brochure will be available providing addresses, websites, hours, and brief description of each Wonder.
On April 16, 2011 an exhibit reception will take place and the 300-page 8 Wonders of Kansas coffee table/guidebook will debut. The 8 Wonders contest series is a project of the non-profit Inman-based Kansas Sampler Foundation. The Foundation's mission is to preserve and sustain rural culture. The Eisenhower Presidential Library & Museum was voted one of the overall 8 Wonders of Kansas. The contest website can be seen at www.8wonders.org.
