Kids' Fishing Derby & Clinic

The Geary County Fish & Game Association will be conducting its 6th annual Kids' Fishing Derby. The event will begin with a pre-meeting at Sportman's Acres, 5120 K-244 Spur Hwy., Junction City at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 18th, where each participant will receive a free rod and reel, and information on Kansas fish species, fishing tips and conservation issues. Then on Saturday, May 19th, volunteers from Geary County will assist youth, ages 8 to 16, in a fun day of fishing at the Geary State Fishing Lake, 10 miles south of Junction City on Hwy. 77. After fishing, the kids, parents and volunteers will be treated to a barbecue, fishing awards earned during the Derby, and prize drawings. There will be three age groups to compete in, with award categories for each age group and more. There is no cost to the youth or parents and all event staff will be volunteering their time to make this a memorable event for everyone. Preregistration is required.
