Mixed Age (5-16)

2:45 PM - 3:45 PM

We will choose from the list below (unless you have a suggestion that seems more interesting). Depending on the students’ interest, we may spend more time on certain topics and omit others, so actual lessons covered in the class may differ from this list.
1. Magic Ink: You’ll experiment with chemicals to find ways to make secret messages appear and disappear.
2. Hovercraft: Can a balloon hold you up in the air? You’ll get a chance to find out, and you’ll also make a hovercraft and ride on a hovercraft.
3. Paddle Wheel Boats: You’ll be making paddle wheel boats and you can test them in our horse trough.
4. Hand Crank Generators: Here’s your chance to see how easy it is to produce the energy needed to light up (and burn out) lights, make motors run real fast, and make a bell ring. Of course, you can try hooking everything together at once too.
5. Gyroscope Spinners: You’ll be making an old-fashioned toy that can spin amazingly fast and just doesn’t like to move in certain directions.
6. Compass: Here’s your chance to take mom or dad out to a park, put a paper bag over their head, and guide them around like your own remote-control robot. Just remember not to run them into the pond!
7. Five Senses – Persistence: You’ll be experimenting with your sense of touch, vision, smell, and hearing to see what it takes to overload them, and to see how they act as they recover.
8. Papermaking: People can make trees and plants into paper. You’ll try to make paper out of all sorts of stuff by blenderizing it and squishing it.
9. Spherical Science: If it bounces and is round, that’s what you’ll be testing to see what bounces the best and what bounces the worst.
10. String Climbers: This seems very strange… there is a way to make a koala bear climb up a string by pulling down on the string. You’ll make any creature you like and then try to teach it to climb.
